Single Pair Ethernet has arrived in the world of Industrial Ethernet with APL. APL is a solution specifically designed for the needs of the process industry. APL started to replace the venerable 4..20mA Interface that has dominated this industry for so long. And APL is well supported with PROFNET today, products are on the market and sales is only going up. Done deal!
But outside the specific needs of the process industry, Single Pair Ethernet is just at the beginning of its career. The PROFINET community is actively preparing for a future, where SPE is ubiquitous and its system advantages can be utilized to design modern, pragmatic and cost-effective automation solutions.
We want to dive into the world of SPE today and help you to understand how SPE can help to make better automation solutions possible.
