The OBT (Optical Bus Terminal) connects a PROFIBUS DP station without
an integrated optical interface to the optical PROFIBUS DP with transmission
rates from 9,6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s including 45,45 kbit/s for PROFIBUS PA.
That means that the OBT enables existing DP devices to benefit from the
advantages of optical data transmission.
Plastic fiber-optic cables up to 50 m in length (with Duplex connectors) or PCF
fiber-optic cables of up to 300 m in length can be used.
PROFIBUS DP stations, e.g. PG, Operator Panels (OP), SIMATIC S7-300,
ET 200 or other DP devices, can be connected via the 9 pin sub D socket.
Two optical interfaces for connecting plastic and PCF fiber-optic cables serve
for connecting to other OBTs, to SIMATIC S7-400 with IM 467 FO or to ET 200
stations with integrated optical interfaces.
