The Fieldbus Kit FBK-2 is a communications board that is specifically designed to significantly simplify the development of a PROFIBUS PA field device. The FBK-2 has successfully passed the PROFIBUS PA Physical Layer Test; a prerequisite for a final device certification.

The Fieldbus Kit FBK-2 hardware is a conformant and industry-hardened PROFIBUS PA communications module that is running in thousands of products in the field. The FBK-2 is a core component specifically designed to significantly simplify the development of a PROFIBUS PA field device. With the FBK-2 a developer does not need to learn the intricacies of the PROFIBUS PA technology but can concentrate on integrating the FBK-2 into his application using a simple, straightforward interface. This renders Softing’s solution into one of the fastest design-in approaches available today.
Cost Efficient by Universal Piggyback Solution
The footprint of the Fieldbus Kit FBK-2 is small enough to fit into the housing of most existing field devices available in the market today. The FBK-2 is used as a piggyback to the main board and is offered in several versions. These include the standard version, a conformal coated version, and a version with a solder connection. In addition, a version with ATEX certification for use in explosive environments is available. As an alternative, the FBK-2 can be configured to run as a FOUNDATION™ fieldbus node without any changes to the hardware to allow the development of a FOUNDATION fieldbus H1 field device.

The Fieldbus Kit FBK-2 has already successfully passed the PROFIBUS PA Physical Layer Test. Thus, a certification prerequisite is already covered by this product.
